The Bearded Cat are an acoustic folk duo from Wollongong, Australia. Jess Boyle and Darcy Ford have been making music together since 2017. Featuring sweet harmonies and a glockenspiel, The Bearded Cat take influences from Fleet Foxes, Alt- J, and Angus and Julia Stone. They have gigged regularly in Wollongong, but this will be their first time performing in New Zealand.
Jess and Darcy met during their time studying music at the University of Wollongong, where they found common ground in their writing style and performance. Starting as a rag-tag folk cover band, the duo quickly started writing and experimenting within the confines of their voices, a guitar and a glock.
In 2018 they had the opportunity to record some songs. This landed “Penumbra” on national radio and helped push Darcy and Jess to treat the band a little bit more seriously. They had the opportunity to perform at the 2018 Illawarra Folk Festival and 2017’s UOW-run, DuckStock.
Jess and Darcy are currently working on recording new material and gigging in new and exciting places.
