Victoria Vigenser and Tony Hillyard share a love of lyrical music, from contemporary compositions to traditional folk song. They are recognised for their uncanny vocal blend, and performances that are liberally laced with strong, emotional melodies and lyrics.
Tony’s velvety vocals and fingerstyle guitar accompaniment guarantee beautiful layers of melody. A balladeer at heart, he has long been associated with folk clubs and festivals in London and New Zealand. Vic adds dynamic guitar, bodhran or dulcimer, and brings her spell-binding voice to their special brand of harmony. In 2014 she was gifted the Frank Winter Memorial Award for young talent at the Auckland Folk Festival.
As Reverie they explore what resounds in the head, heart and soul of the folk roots movement.
Tony and Vic have been sharing how they tackle vocal blend and harmony choices in their vocal harmony workshops. They encourage participation at every level and chat about some of the things they consider important for a great vocal performance. There is something for everyone, whether you have harmony in the bones, or can only just manage a melody!
As well as a feature concert, Reverie will be running two choir workshops during the festival, and will lead the Festival Choir in closing the Balladeer on Sunday evening.
Recently Reverie put down 11 of their favourite traditional and contemporary tracks, all in one live, intimate and unaffected recording session. The duo’s debut album BLOOD MEMORIES will be available from August 2017, on a special edition USB with lots of free stuff packed in; film of the recording session, song lyrics and histories, and lots of other extras. The album will be available at the festival, or by order from reveriefolk@gmail.com
